Dell Mini 10v Hackintosh Upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.7

I’ve just updated my Dell Mini 10v hackintosh netbook to Mac OS X 10.6.7. It was a simple process.

Run the Netbook Installer and restart.
Download the Mac OS X 10.6.7 Update dmg file from the Apple support site.
Run the update in the dmg file.
Restart and all done.

I ran Software Update after the restart to get the latest version iTunes and Safari.

After 1 year and 8 months, my Dell Mini 10v hackintosh is still running strong. However, I only use it mainly for Skype video chat. For all the other stuff I used to do on my Dell Mini 10v hackintosh netbook, I’m using my iPad 1st Gen.

Upgrading My Dell Mini 10v Hackintosh Netbook to Mac OS X 10.6.5

My Mini 10v hackintosh was running 10.6.3 before the upgrade. The upgrade was a simple process of following the instructions from http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/general-mac-os-x-discussion/21481-official-mac-os-x-10-6-4-update-thread.html.

Download and run NetbookInstaller
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.4 Combo Update
Restart Dell Mini 10v

To update the hackintosh laptop from Mac OS X 10.6.4 to Mac OS X 10.6.5

Run NetbookInstaller again
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.5 Combo Update
Restart Dell Mini 10v

That’s it. My Dell Mini 10v is now running Mac OS X 10.6.5.

It’s been more than 6 months since I wrote anything in this blog. Nothing much happened with my Dell Mini 10v hackintosh netbook during this past 6 months. The iPad has replaced the hackintosh netbook for casual web browsing and reading ebooks. The netbook only comes into action when I need to use Skype with video chat.

In the past 6 months, Mac OS X 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 has been released. I’m still running Mac OS X 10.6.3 on the Dell Mini 10v hackintosh netbook because it works and I don’t want to break anything. Since I have some free time this weekend, I will attempt to upgrade the Dell Mini 10v to 10.6.5.

I will update this blog after my Dell Mini 10v is updated to Mac OS X 10.6.5.

If you’re planning to make the leap to 10.6.3, remember to imstall NetbookInstaller 0.8.4RC1 first before running Software Update. Dell Mini 10v Hackintosh Updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.2

Just finished updating my hackintosh Dell Mini 10v to Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

The Intel Atom CPU is now reported as a 1.67 GHz Intel Core Solo Processor. The processor used to be listed as 1.67 GHz Unknown in Snow Leopard 10.6.1.

Sound didn’t work after the upgrade on the first reboot. I ran NetBookInstaller 8.3RC4 again and rebooted. Sound came back after the reboot.

Are you gonna update to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 too? Get the steps here.

Can I Really Update My Hackintosh Netbook to Snow Leopard 10.6.2?

Yes, you can according to the instructions over at *NEW* NetbookInstaller .8.3 RC4 [testing]. You can now update your hackintosh netbook to Snow Leopard 10.6.2, but make sure you do it according to the steps given.

What If I Accidentally Updated to 10.6.2 and Killed My Hackintosh Netbook?

If you did, you can attempt to resuscitate it using the steps from http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/general-mac-os-x-discussion/15050-osx-10-6-2-a-2.html#post117830.

Disclaimer: I haven’t performed either of the above operations, so I can’t actually guarantee anything.

I’ll be attempting to update my Dell Mini 10v hackintosh to Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 tonight. Will report back with my results after my attempt.

Google Chrome Beta coming to Mac OS X in Dec 2009

I’ve been running the Developer Preview version of Google Chrome for Mac OS X on my hackintosh laptop from day one. It’s nice to know that Google is gearing up to launch a Beta version of Google Chrome according to CNET.

I hope Google will enable back the Full Screen view in Google Chrome for Mac OS X Beta. The developer preview version 4.0.237.0 has disabled Full Screen view.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 won’t play with my Dell Mini 10v. It won’t play with any Netbook with an Intel Atom CPU.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can update to 10.6.2 and copy the 10.6.1 kernel over the 10.6.2 kernel. It should work and some have already done it. Find out more at mydellmini.com.

Sob… sob… maybe I’ll try this copy the old kernel trick later…
