My Dell Mini 10v hackintosh netbook has been updated to Mac OS X 10.6.3. Everything works without any issue. If you’re planning to make the leap to 10.6.3, remember to imstall NetbookInstaller 0.8.4RC1 first before running Software Update. If you face any problems, you can ask for help from the Mac OS X discussion forums on MyDellMini.com.
May your software update goes smoothly.

I made the mistake of allowing my Dell Mini 10v to update to 10.6.3 before installing the newest version of netbookinstaller and now I have a kernel panic on boot. Do you have any suggestions on how to get my computer working again and/or recovering the data from it? Thanks
Hi Phil. There’s a thread at http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell-mini-10v-mac-os-x-discussion/20024-dell-10v-update-os-x-10-6-3-problem.html discussing problems related to the 10.6.3 update on the mini 10v. They may have a solution for you.
Hi, I’m very interested in Linux but Im a Super Newbie and I’m having trouble deciding on the right distribution for me (Havent you heard this a million times?) anyway here is my problem, I need a distribution that can switch between reading and writing in English and Japanese (Japanese Language Support) with out restarting the operating system.
Hi Emily, I haven’t used Linux on my home PCs for ages.
Maybe some Linux users reading these comments can provide some pointers for Emily.
@Emily N Try Ubuntu- it’s cool, stable and the most popular linux and it has a netbook version
Hello, I just purchased a Dell Mini 10v. Upgraded to 2GB memory and 320GB HD. I also ordered what I thought to be Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6. When it arrived, I discovered it is Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 – Will I have any problems with installing Snow Leopard 10.6.3 prior to having installed 10.6? Help!
Hi Tony, you can check out http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-os-x-development/ for tips or request for help on installing Mac OS X on your Dell Mini 10v. HTH.
Best Linux for that: Ubuntu
Mac 10.6.3 didn’t have a problem using the latest netbook boot maker.
Is the Dell Mini 10v with 2 Gigs of ram and digital TV as Hackintoshable at the standard Dell Mini 10V. Also is it capable of running in 64 bit mode?
The newer Dell Mini 10 with the Atom N450 CPU and Integrated IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 is not a good choice for a hackintosh netbook.

Hi! what do you know about the 10.6.4 update? any issues with it?
I haven’t tried to update to 10.6.4 yet. From what I read at http://www.meklort.com/?p=262#comments, the update is not idiot-proof yet. I’ll wait since I’m happy with 10.6.3.
hey I would love to know about battery performance on your laptop thanks
I think it’s about 5-6 hours of web surfing with wifi on a full charge.
hey guys, just loaded snow leopard onto my dell mini 10v 1011, and had a couple questions.
1. my sound sometimes doesn’t work, restarting usually fixes this. I read something about running netbbokinstaller, but don’t really know what that does. I’m also a little wary to try it because the guys who helped me load snow leopard onto my 10v told me that i should not do any mac updates because it might mess up my computers operating software… is this true? also what should I do about the sound issue?
Hi greg, If you’re not comfortable with tinkering with your dell 10v, I would suggest not messing with it. The sound issue, sometimes I get no sound too and restarting fixes it.
My 10v is still on Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Running the latest Netbookinstaller is supposed to be able to make it possible to update my 10v to 10.6.4 and above. I’m just lazy to do the update as my Mini 10v hackintosh runs just fine with Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
Hey Victor! thanks for the advice
its not that I’m uncomfortable with “tinkering” I just would like to know what netbookinstaller does… I read somewhere that by running it I could fix my sound issue. but if I run it is there any risk of losing programs I’ve installed or my saved settings?…. also should I avoid doing mac software updates for the risk that it might also cause my computer to lose its settings and programs?…. I’m fairly computer savoy however I’m just new to the whole Hackintosh thing, a buddy loaded OSX onto it for me, and Ive never done anything like that before. finally is there anything I can do to permanently fix he intermittent sound issue?.. I’m a music teacher and its fairly frustrating to have to restart while in the middle of a lesson to play examples
Your buddy probably used netbookinstaller to get Mac OS running on your Dell Mini 10v.
You can read the latest news about Netbookinstaller at http://www.meklort.com/.
ok i get it thanks man…. so if i run it will it change my current settings on my computer… will it be like starting over again ?
I believe it will change some settings, but it won’t be like starting over again.
and i wont lose programs Ive loaded up or have to re-register them?
To be safe, you should do a Time Machine backup before running NetbookInstaller. Or you could throw caution to the wind and just run Netbookinstaller. Since it’s a hackintosh, you’re living on the wildside anyway.
ok thanks, but as far as you know there is no specific way to fix the interrmmitant sound issue ?
hey guys I was told by the guy that hooked up osx on my dell 10v 1011 that i should not use the automated mac software updates that I get notices about. Is this true? do I risk anything by accepting the osx software updates ?
It’s true. Your hackintosh laptop may not boot up if you use the automated Mac osx updates.
Victor thank you again for your answers. your advice is solid gold to me
so ok dont update, but there really isn’t any necessary reason I’d need to update, right?
also I’m assuming updating fireforx itunes etc “program updates” is fine and not “operating platform software” security updates etc
is this correct?
Program updates like firefox, google chrome, etc is fine. Just don’t go for the “Mac OS X 10.6.x” updates to be safe.
I did however update my Dell Mini 10v to 10.6.5 last weekend. http://www.hackintoshlaptop.com/upgrading-my-dell-mini-10v-hackintosh-netbook-to-mac-os-x-10-6-5/
whats better about 10.6.5?
your tutorial seems easy, but the more and more I read, it seems that the majority of people have had problems with “kernal panics” which i dont even know what that means and one guy said he lost his remaining battery status bar.
Do you think the update process is “rookie user friendly” enough for me. You seem to be an expert, but Im def not
Thanks Victor!
hi, victor goh…
man, i purchase an dell mini 10v nickelodeon edition,
and a snow leopard mac os x version 10.6.3 retail dvd.
so i,m confused with lots of guides to make this hackingtosh.

Hi Krhis,
There’s a step by step guide on this over at Gizmodo – http://gizmodo.com/5389166/how-to-hackintosh-a-dell-mini-10v-into-the-ultimate-snow-leopard-netbook. You could also get help from http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell-mini-10v-mac-os-x-discussion/. That’s where I go to for help when things don’t work on my dell mini 10v hackintosh. Hope this helps.
To greg who is having the sound issue. I installed 10.3 on my dell 10. Sometimes the sound worked, then for no reason next time I bootup the sound was gone. My wife works as a language teacher and it was a problem for her. After a lot of hit and miss efforts I finally got it to work by running the latest Netbookinstaller (for 10.5 I think) but did not update the O.S., I left that as 10.3. Now when I booup I get a little bar that empties for a few seconds before The normal apple logo bootup, but I have never had the sound issue again. Hope this helps.
