To greg who is having the sound issue. I installed 10.3 on my dell 10. Sometimes the sound worked, then for no reason next time I bootup the sound was gone. My wife works as a language teacher and it was a problem for her. After a lot of hit and miss efforts I finally got it to work by running the latest Netbookinstaller (for 10.5 I think) but did not update the O.S., I left that as 10.3. Now when I booup I get a little bar that empties for a few seconds before The normal apple logo bootup, but I have never had the sound issue again. Hope this helps.

whats better about 10.6.5?

your tutorial seems easy, but the more and more I read, it seems that the majority of people have had problems with "kernal panics" which i dont even know what that means and one guy said he lost his remaining battery status bar.

Do you think the update process is "rookie user friendly" enough for me. You seem to be an expert, but Im def not

Thanks Victor!

Program updates like firefox, google chrome, etc is fine. Just don't go for the "Mac OS X 10.6.x" updates to be safe.

I did however update my Dell Mini 10v to 10.6.5 last weekend. http://www.hackintoshlaptop.com/upgrading-my-dell-mini-10v-hackintosh-netbook-to-mac-os-x-10-6-5/

Victor thank you again for your answers. your advice is solid gold to me

so ok dont update, but there really isn't any necessary reason I'd need to update, right?

also I'm assuming updating fireforx itunes etc "program updates" is fine and not "operating platform software" security updates etc

is this correct?

It's true. Your hackintosh laptop may not boot up if you use the automated Mac osx updates.
